Here’s some additional information you might find helpful for your trip planning.

For many people this happens above 2,400m or 8,000 ft. Some people can go to much higher altitudes without getting symptoms.

Altitude reference for some popular places in Bhutan: Tiger’s Nest (3,120m/10,232ft), Paro (2,250m/7,382ft), Thimphu (2,350m/7,710ft), Dochu La Pass (3,150m/10,334ft), Punakha (1,310m/4,300ft), Gangtey (2,900m/9,510ft)

To enter Bhutan, you must obtain a visa. The visa process typically involves booking a tour package through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator. FTT Travel can handle visa applications on your behalf with our local partner.

Independent travel is not permitted; all visitors must be part of a pre-arranged tour. Please contact us anytime for the most up-to-date information.

In Bhutan, a 10% service charge and 10% tax are added to prices (e.g., a Nu 100 lunch totals Nu 120).

Entering to Bhutan, a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is also required. This is a fee that is mandatory for all tourists visiting Bhutan. The amount of the fee varies depending on the season and the type of tourist (e.g., group tour, independent traveler). It is usually included in the cost of pre-arranged tour packages.

The SDF is currently US$100 per person per night for all visitors except those from India, who presently pay INR 1200 per person per night. Children aged 6 to 12 receive a 50% discount, while those aged 5 and under are exempted. The SDF is payable for the duration of the traveller’s stay in Bhutan. (e.g.,  2 Adults travel to Bhutan for 6 Days and 5 Nights, SDF total would be US$ 100 x 5 nights x 2 persons = US$1,000 in total.
